An ultrahigh-resolution spectrometer using parallel double gratings
This paper describes a Parallel-Double-Grating Spectrometer (PDGS) with ultrahigh resolution. Two plane reflection gratings are placed in parallel and staggered to form a dispersive component, through which the light passes multiple times, which greatly ...

Light-Driven Pitch Tuning of Self-Assembled Hierarchical Gratings
Gratings are of vital importance in modern optics. Self-assembled cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) gratings have attracted intensive attention due to their easy fabrication and broad applications.

We propose the concept of a Dirac grating, where periodic permittivity perturbations approach a train of Dirac functions. We show that Dirac gratings can yield identical spectral characteristics for higher-order gratings compared to first-order gratings of the same length. Using an inverse Fourier transform technique, we design different types of Dirac

Analysis of First-Order Gratings in Silicon Photonic Waveguides
A simple thin film effective index analysis for first-order gratings in Si photonic waveguides is shown to provide highly accurate results for reflected and transmitted power spectrums as long as the waveguide remains single mode and non-radiating.

Polarization independent Bragg gratings using tilted subwavelength grating waveguide Bragg gratings
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a polarization independent subwavelength grating (SWG) waveguide Bragg grating (WBG) by using an SWG waveguide with tilted segments. By optimizing the tilting angle and other geometry parameters, such as the width and the length of the loading segments used to create the BG, we can obtain a zero birefringence ...

For single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with a length of 1–50 µm, the surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) resonance is within the terahertz frequency range; therefore, SWCNT lattices can be used to design frequency-selective surface (FSS).

Theory of strong coupling between molecules and surface plasmons on a grating
The strong coupling of molecules with surface plasmons results in hybrid states which are part molecule, part surface-bound light. Since molecular resonances may acquire the spatial coherence of plasmons, which have mm-scale propagation lengths, strong ...

A conical-diffraction-based cross-dispersed spatial heterodyne spectrometer (CDCDSHS) is presented. Conical diffraction is introduced, and one grating in the SHS is rolled around the central normal of its surface to expand the spectral range.
