Listeriosis is a rare disease caused by Listeria monocytogenes, a gram-positive and anaerobic facultative bacterium. In Europe, the incidence is 3 cases per million and in Portugal is 2,3 cases per million. Pregnant women represent 17% of all cases of listeriosis, being more susceptible multiple gestations, hispanic, ethnic and poor ones.
