Geoid precision from limited‐area gravimetric surveys

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography, 2012
We derive a number of rough theoretical estimates for the precision of a geoid model computed from a local gravimetric survey combined with global reference model information. Example calculations for Finland and Estonia are presented.

A Comparison of Gravimetric, Isostatic, and Spectral Decomposition Methods for a Possible Enhancement of the Mantle Signature in the Long-Wavelength Geoidal Geometry

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
A long-wavelength geoidal geometry characterizes the most pronounced features of the Indian Ocean geoid low and the West Pacific and North Atlantic geoid highs.

A High-Resolution Gravimetric Geoid Model for Kuwait Using the Least-Squares Collocation

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
A new gravimetric geoid model, the KW-FLGM2021, is developed for Kuwait in this study. This new geoid model is driven by a combination of the XGM2019e-combined global geopotential model (GGM), terrestrial gravity, and the SRTM 3 global digital elevation ...

GRAVIMETRIC GEOID MODELLING OVER PENINSULAR MALAYSIA USING TWO DIFFERENT GRIDDING APPROACHES FOR COMBINING FREE AIR ANOMALY [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2019
We investigate the use of the KTH Method to compute gravimetric geoid models of Malaysian Peninsular and the effect of two differing strategies to combine and interpolate terrestrial, marine DTU17 free air gravity anomaly data at regular grid nodes ...

Global detailed gravimetric geoid [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Geodesy, 1979
A 1 ° × 1 ° global detailed gravimetric geoid has been computed, using a combination of the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) GEM‐8 potential field model and a set of 38,406 1° × 1° mean surface free air anomalies. Numerous short wavelength features are shown in the geoid contour map, e.g., the steep gradients associated with oceanic trenches ...

Geoid model validation and topographic bias

open access: yesJournal of Geodetic Science, 2022
Recently a number of geoid campaigns were performed to verify different types of geoid and quasigeoid modeling techniques. Typically, GNSS-leveling was employed as an independent method, but in some cases zenith camera astronomic deflection data were ...

Two alternative techniques for fitting the gravimetric geoid for Egypt

open access: yesContributions to Geophysics and Geodesy, 2023
In this paper, two proposed geoid fitting techniques for Egypt's gravimetrically determined geoid and Global Positioning System GPS/levelling-derived geoid are introduced. First, any errors in the available GPS stations are ruled out.

Gravimetric geoid in the Northwest Pacific Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 1977
A total of 3708 1 x 1 deg free-air gravity anomaly averages have been used to construct a new 1 x 1 deg gravimetric geoid of the Northwest Pacific Ocean. The 1 x 1 deg averages are based on a compilation of 147,000 surface ship and pendulum gravity measurements.
