Quantification of Direct Benefits of Functional Recovery‐Based Design for Seismic Resilience

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 3, August 2026.
Lessons from recent major earthquakes have shown that current life‐safety‐centered seismic design practice falls short in ensuring a desirable post‐hazard recovery. Extensive economic losses, high demolition rates, and long recovery have signified a gap between design targets and society's expectations of seismic performance of code‐compliant buildings.

Longitudinal Associations Between Pubertal Development and Youth Behavioral Adjustment in the Context of Parent and Peer Relationships

open access: yesSocial Development, Volume 35, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Puberty is a key developmental process influencing youths’ psychosocial adjustment, yet research has rarely examined its links to adaptive outcomes such as prosocial behavior. Using data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, we applied linear mixed‐effects models to test associations between pubertal timing and tempo ...

The Revo‐Evo Debate in the History and Philosophy of Science

open access: yesNatural Sciences, Volume 6, Issue 3, July 2026.
The paper juxtaposes revolutionary and evolutionary positions in epistemology in general as well as the history of science. While it deems the evolutionary arguments more persuasive, it also stresses the dependence of our assessment of change on the language we choose to describe the theories and positions under consideration.

A Dialogue on Revolutions and Revolutionaries in Science: A Perspective From Quantum Mechanics

open access: yesNatural Sciences, Volume 6, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT We discuss the notions of scientific revolutions and revolutionaries in the context of the Relativity Revolution and of the First, Second, and Third Quantum Revolutions. We conclude that at the core of the question of what qualifies as a revolution and revolutionary is an assessment of the gradients of knowledge accumulation over time, both at

Imminent Localized Precipitation Preceded by a Surge in Cloud‐Base Descent and Reflectivity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract The nowcasting of localized precipitation (LP) is often limited by insufficient observation of the vertical cloud evolution preceding rainfall. Here we systematically tracked rapid cloud development within 2 hr before LP onset, utilizing cloud data collected in 2024 from the millimeter‐wavelength cloud radar network across China, together with
