Linear Toroidal‐Inertial Waves on A Differentially Rotating Sphere with Application to Helioseismology: Modeling, Forward and Inverse Problems

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper develops a mathematical framework for interpreting observations of solar inertial waves in an idealized setting. Under the assumption of purely toroidal linear waves on the sphere, the stream function of the flow satisfies a fourth‐order scalar equation.

Digital Discovery of Interferometric Gravitational Wave Detectors

open access: yesPhysical Review X
Gravitational waves, detected a century after they were first theorized, are space-time distortions caused by some of the most cataclysmic events in the Universe, including black hole mergers and supernovae.

The Science Case for Advanced Gravitational Wave Detectors

open access: yes, 2014
We provide an introduction to the science case for advanced interferometric gravitational wave detectors, which are currently being realized in the world and in the second half of the present decade will achieve a sensitivity ten times larger than first ...

Numerical Insights Into the Resistance Reduction Mechanisms of Forward Tapered Transoms in High‐Speed Catamaran: A Computational Fluid Dynamics‐Based Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the hydrodynamic influence of forward transom tapering on a displacement catamaran hull using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Five taper configurations ranging from a vertical transom base design to a fully tapered stern (1.00B) were evaluated over a wide Froude number range (Fr = .3 to 1.0).

Gravitational waves from axion wave production

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
We consider a scenario with axions/axion-like particles Chern–Simons gravity coupling, such that gravitational waves can be produced directly from axion wave parametric resonance in the early universe after inflation.

Single Smooth Waveform Command‐Shaping Control of Overhead Crane Systems Utilizing Two‐Stage Acceleration–Deceleration Profile for Short‐Moving Point‐to‐Point Maneuver

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Modern industrial demand for efficient material handling in confined spaces has driven the need for overhead cranes capable of short‐distance point‐to‐point maneuvers without compromising payload stability. Conventional three‐stage shaper profiles, experiencing acceleration, cruising, and deceleration, become inefficient or infeasible for ...

Gravitational wave detectors

open access: yes, 1997
Gravitational waves, also known as gravitational radiation were first predicted in the General Theory of Relativity by A. Einstein. This article explains the principle of gravitational wave detection in brief and tries to give an idea about the existent ...

A Passive Low‐Frequency, High‐Sensitivity Diamagnetic Levitation Accelerometer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the great potential of diamagnetic levitation accelerometers in detecting low‐frequency and weak motion, there is still a demand to further enhance their sensitivity for geophysical and microgravity applications. In this study, a straightforward structural modulating approach is presented to enhance the sensitivity of diamagnetic ...

A Methodological Framework to Study Change in Team Cognition Under the Dynamical Hypothesis

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The dynamical hypothesis claims that cognitive systems, such as teams, are dynamical systems (i.e., an interdependent collection of individuals and their technology that change together over time). Following this hypothesis, team researchers have adopted dynamical approaches to better understand the team cognitive processes and states that ...
