A New Thermogeomechanical Theory for Gravity Drainage in Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage
SPE Journal, 2013Summary Oil-sands reservoirs in western Canada hold more than 170 billion bbl of recoverable heavy oil and bitumen representing a significant source of unconventional oil. At in-situ conditions, the majority of this oil has essentially no initial mobility because of its high viscosity, which is typically in the hundreds of thousands to ...

Abstract This paper presents a theory for estimating the rate of gravity drainage ofa liquid out of a sand column. Account is taken of the variation inpermeability to the liquid as the saturation in the upper part of the sandbecomes less than 100 pct. The theory is confirmed by previously published

Effect of Dip Angle on Recovery Factor During Free Fall Gravity Drainage and Forced Gravity Drainage
82nd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, 2021Summary Gravity drainage is an effective recovery mechanism in the majority of fractured reservoirs. In this study, the effects of matrix and fracture orientation, and 0–20 degrees’ deviation from vertical alignment on recovery factors were investigated during free fall gravity drainage (FFGD) and forced gravity drainage (FGD).

Venous drainage - gravity or assisted?
Perfusion, 2011Since the early start of cardiopulmonary bypass, vascular access has been recognized as a main variable for obtaining optimal blood flow during cardiopulmonary bypass. In particular, venous drainage can limit the maximum flow as the wide, low-resistance, collapsible veins are connected with smaller stiff cannulas and tubing.

The Gravity Drainage Mechanism
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1953Richard H. Smith, general production superintendent for the Signal Oil and Gas Co., presented the eighth talk in the series on "Elements of Petroleum Production" at a recent meeting of the Pacific Technology Forum. Smith discussed the mechanism of gravity drainage as it affects production from petroleum reservoirs.

Abstract Various factors must be considered in an engineering evaluation of gravity-drainage reservoirs. Among these are:the effect of producing rate on total oil recovery;the effect upon well productivity and ultimate recovery of the pressure level maintained during the producing life of the reservoir;the economic ...

Comparison of Drainage Equations for the Gravity Drainage of Stratified Profiles
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1976Abstract The output from a computer‐based numerical analysis of the gravity drainage of a sand profile through an underlying impeding layer is used as the data for testing the manner in which algebraic equations are capable of describing the stratified drainage process.

Gravity drainage in porous media: the effect of wetting
Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2003In order to relate the wetting properties at the pore scale to the macroscale hydrodynamics, a series of benchmark experiments on the effect of the wetting on flow in porous media were performed. Gravity drainage of hexane (oil) in a model porous medium consisting of water-wet sand was studied using γ-ray densitometry and weight measurements.

Mathematical Modeling of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage
SPE International Thermal Operations and Heavy Oil Symposium and Western Regional Meeting, 2004Abstract A mathematical model for gravity drainage in heavy-oil reservoirs and tar sands during steam injection in linear geometry is proposed. The mathematical model is based on the experimental observations that the steam zone shape is an inverted triangle with the vertex fixed at the bottom production well.
