Surface Instabilities on Liquid Oxygen in an Inhomogeneous Magnetic Field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Liquid oxygen exhibits surface instabilities when subjected to a sufficiently strong magnetic field. A vertically oriented magnetic field gradient both increases the magnetic field value at which the pattern forms and shrinks the length scale of the ...

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Avoiding degenerate coframes in an affine gauge approach to quantum gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
In quantum models of gravity, it is surmized that configurations with degenerate coframes could occur during topology change of the underlying spacetime structure.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Selection of an optimum global gravitational model for geological mapping of Afikpo and Anambra Basins in Nigeria

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography, 2022
Combined Global Gravitational Models (GGMs) are being used in numerous geoscience applications, most notably for gravimetric geoid modeling (in geodesy) and for geological mapping and geophysical explorations (in the Earth’s sciences).

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

An Approach to Moho Topography Recovery Using the On-Orbit GOCE Gravity Gradients and Its Applications in Tibet

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
It is significant to determine the refined Moho topography for understanding the tectonic structure of the crust and upper mantle. A novel method to invert the Moho topography from the on-orbit gravity gradients is proposed in the present study. The Moho

GOCE Downward Continuation to the Earth’s Surface and Improvements to Local Geoid Modeling by FFT and LSC

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
One of the main applications of the gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) satellite data is their combination with local gravity anomalies for geoid and gravity field modeling purposes.

Gradient modification of Newtonian gravity [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2020
A second gradient generalization of Newtonian gravity is presented within the framework of gradient field theory. Weak nonlocality is introduced via first and second gradients of the gravitational field strength in the Lagrangian density. Gradient generalizations of the Poisson equation of Newtonian gravitation for the gravitational potential and of ...
