Fully 3D‐Printed Wave‐Wound Electromagnetic Motors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work presents the first fully 3D‐printed wave‐wound electromagnetic motors, which are created using conductive nanoparticle inks, carbon‐filled nylon polymers, and surface mount components. These motors can achieve a stall torque of 7.62N·mmA−1$7.62 \nobreakspace N{\cdot }mm A^{-1}$ and efficiency of 28.2 %, which approaches the performance of ...

Magnetic Droplet Manipulation on Open Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Recent advances in the manipulation of magnetic droplets demonstrate various manipulations on open surfaces, including transport, splitting, merging, and force‐controlled motion, enabled by magnetic particles and external fields. ABSTRACT Manipulation of liquids on a smaller scale enables applications in various fields, particularly diagnostics and ...

NEEMO 14: Evaluation of Human Performance for Rover, Cargo Lander, Crew Lander, and Exploration Tasks in Simulated Partial Gravity

open access: yes, 2011
The ultimate success of future human space exploration missions is dependent on the ability to perform extravehicular activity (EVA) tasks effectively, efficiently, and safely, whether those tasks represent a nominal mode of operation or a contingency ...

Buckling‐Driven Linearity in Flexible Capacitive Pressure Sensors Based on a Three‐Dimensional Dual‐Pore Polyurethane Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A flexible pressure sensor utilizing a 3D dual‐pore polyurethane structure is developed to overcome the intrinsic trade‐off between sensitivity and linearity. By inducing sequential buckling through distinct pore sizes and shapes, the device achieves highly linear and sensitive responses across a wide pressure range.

Conceptual design of a device to measure hand swelling in a micro-gravity environment

open access: yes, 1993
In the design of pressurized suits for use by astronauts in space, proper fit is an important consideration. One particularly difficult aspect of the suit design is the design of the gloves.

An Imaging‐Guided, Patient‐Specific Guiding Aid (RWNGuide) for Safe and Reproducible Inner Ear Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A patient‐specific, imaging‐guided aid enables precise and reproducible drug delivery to the inner ear. By guiding therapeutic agents directly to the round window niche, this approach reduces variability in drug localization, improves delivery safety, and addresses a critical bottleneck in inner ear therapy, offering a scalable strategy for precision ...

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...
