Generation of gravity waves from thermal tides in the Venus atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Gravity waves are observed in Venus atmosphere, but their characteristics are not well-known. Here, the authors show spontaneous generation of gravity waves from the thermal tides in the Venus atmosphere as small-scale gravity waves are resolved in high ...

Observation and simulation of atmospheric gravity waves exciting subsequent tsunami along the coastline of Japan after Tonga explosion event [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Tsunamis are commonly generated by earthquakes beneath the ocean floor, volcanic eruptions, and landslides. The tsunami following the Tonga eruption of 2022 is believed to have been excited by atmospheric pressure fluctuations generated by the explosion ...

The estimation of the horizontal parameters of gravity waves by the monostatic Rayleigh Lidar [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Monostatic Rayleigh Lidar is mainly used for the observation of the middle atmosphere temperature and vertical activity of gravity waves. It was thought that it could not be used for the study of the gravity waves horizontal activity.

GEODYNAMIC WAVES AND GRAVITY

open access: yesГеодинамика и тектонофизика, 2015
Gravity phenomena related to the Earth movements in the Solar System and through the Galaxy are reviewed. Such movements are manifested by geological processes on the Earth and correlate with geophysical fields of the Earth.

The Capillary Waves’ Contribution to Wind-Wave Generation

open access: yesFluids, 2022
Published theories and observations have shown that dissipation of gravity waves implies frequency downshifting of wave energy. Hence, for wind-waves, the wind energy input to the highest frequencies is of special interest.

Analysis of Gravity Wave Characteristics during a Hailstone Event in the Cold Vortex of Northeast China

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
Based on high-resolution pressure data collected by a microbarograph and Fourier transform (FFT) data processing, a detailed analysis of the frequency spectra characteristics of gravity waves during a hailstone event in the cold vortex of Northeast China

Ocean Surface Gravity Wave Excitation of Flexural Gravity and Extensional Lamb Waves in Ice Shelves

open access: yesSeismica, 2023
Flexure and extension of ice shelves in response to incident ocean surface gravity waves have been linked to iceberg calving, rift growth, and even disintegration of ice shelves.

Studies on atmospheric gravity wave activity in the troposphere and lower stratosphere over a tropical station at Gadanki [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2005
MST radars are powerful tools to study the mesosphere, stratosphere and troposphere and have made considerable contributions to the studies of the dynamics of the upper, middle and lower atmosphere. Atmospheric gravity waves play a significant role in

Propagation paths and source distributions of resolved gravity waves in ECMWF-IFS analysis fields around the southern polar night jet [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2021
In the southern winter polar stratosphere, the distribution of gravity wave momentum flux in many state-of-the-art climate simulations is inconsistent with long-time satellite and superpressure balloon observations around 60∘ S.

Gravity waves in the Sun [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2005
We present numerical simulations of penetrative convection and gravity wave excitation in the Sun. Gravity waves are self-consistently generated by a convective zone overlying a radiative interior. We produce power spectra for gravity waves in the radiative region as well as estimates for the energy flux of gravity waves below the convection zone.
