A Personal Perspective on Metalloprotein Structure and the Future of Macromolecular X‐Ray Crystallography

open access: yesJournal of the Chinese Chemical Society, EarlyView.
While X‐ray crystallography has been the primary method for determining the structures of metalloproteins, cryoEM has taken over this role, illustrated by [4Fe4S]‐cluster containing proteins deposited in the Protein Data Bank. What will be the role for X‐ray crystallography as cryoEM and machine learning methods dominate the initial structural analysis?

Differences in associations between attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms and physical activity across childhood and adolescence and among males and females in a representative UK birth cohort

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Children and adolescents with attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) exhibit higher physical activity (PA) levels than peers without ADHD. It remains unclear how this association evolves across developmental stages and differs between sexes.

Tracking Summer Greenland Blocking: The Upstream Pathway Shapes Historical Extremes and Future Change

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study investigates summer Greenland atmospheric blocking using the Lagrangian tracking Python package blocktrack applied to ERA5 reanalysis and CMIP6 models. Two types of blocks—upstream (Northern Canada origin) and retrograding (Northern Atlantic origin)—are distinguished, with upstream blocks driving recent observed frequency increasing trends ...

Evolution of short gravity waves on long gravity waves

Physics of Fluids A, Fluid Dynamics, 1993
The evolution of short gravity waves on long gravity waves on the surface of deep water is studied. Both wave trains are assumed to be irrotational, mild in slope, and slowly modulated in space and time, but their scales are so different that the short wavelength is very much less than the long-wave amplitude.

Gravity-Capillary Wave Spectral Modulation by Gravity Waves

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2017
In order to more fully understand the specific hydrodynamic relationship between young wind-generated gravity-capillary waves and longer gravity waves, a laboratory experiment was devised to observe changes in short wave spectral behavior over the phase of a long wave.

Mirages with Atmospheric Gravity Waves

Light and Color in the Open Air, 1993
Mirages observed over an interval of time occasionally display slow variations that seem to be periodic.
