Application of the Ring Theory in the Segmentation of Digital Images [PDF]
Ring theory is one of the branches of the abstract algebra that has been broadly used in images. However, ring theory has not been very related with image segmentation.

Dark solitons at nonlinear interfaces [PDF]
The refraction of dark solitons at a planar boundary separating two defocusing Kerr media is simulated and analyzed, for the first time (to our knowledge). Analysis is based on the nonlinear Helmholtz equation and is thus valid for any angle of incidence.

Observations of convection in A-type stars [PDF]
Convection and turbulence in stellar atmospheres have a significant effect on the emergent flux from A-type stars. The recent theoretical advancements in convection modelling have proved a challenge to the observers to obtain measurements with sufficient

Sex Differences in Outcomes after Stroke in Patients with Diabetes in Ontario, Canada. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Outcomes after stroke in those with diabetes are not well characterized, especially by sex and age. We sought to calculate the sex- and age-specific risk of cardiovascular outcomes after ischemic stroke among those with diabetes.

Phantom maps and the Gray index
Let \(X\) be a CW complex with skeleta \(X_n\) and let \(q_n: X\to X/X_n\) denote the quotient map. A phantom map \(f:X\to Y\) is a map with the property that, for each \(n\), there is \textit{at least one} map \(f_n:X/X_n\to Y\) such that \(f \simeq f_n \circ q_n\). It may or may not happen that \(f_n\) is itself a phantom map; the Gray index of \(f\)

Brainstem atrophy in focal epilepsy destabilizes brainstem-brain interactions: Preliminary findings. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: MR Imaging has shown atrophy in brainstem regions that were linked to autonomic dysfunction in epilepsy patients. The brainstem projects to and modulates the activation state of several wide-spread cortical/subcortical regions.
