Gray scale processing of hydrographic maps

Proceedings of 13th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 1996
This paper investigates how gray scale information can be used in a hydrographic map understanding system to improve the system performance. To process gray scale scanned map images, we have implemented a topographic analysis method and a binary analysis method.

(Gray) Mappings for Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation

2007 IEEE 65th Vehicular Technology Conference - VTC2007-Spring, 2007
Mappings for square quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) are investigated in terms of the achievable capacity in bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM). In G. Caire et al. (1998) it is conjectured that Gray labelings maximize this capacity. However, Gray mappings are not unique and it can be shown that the conjecture cannot hold in general for QAM ...

Improvements to APSK constellation with gray mapping

2014 IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting, 2014
Amplitude phase shift keying (APSK) constellation with gray mapping proposed in [2] provides considerable shaping gain compared with quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). In this paper, some improvements to APSK Constellation with gray mapping are addressed.

Accuracy of gray-scale coding in lung sound mapping

Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics, 2010
Stethoscope evaluation of the lungs is widely accepted and practiced; however, there are some widely recognized, major limitations with its use. A safe device that helped solve these limitations by translating sound into objective, quantifiable images would have clinical utility.

Histogram equalization algorithm for variable gray level mapping

2010 8th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2010
The traditional histogram equalization algorithm is likely to cause information loss. The paper introduced a gray level mapping algorithm in which information entropy remains the same. The algorithm adjusting the gray scale transformation of the image, introduces a new transformation formula parameter β, and makes the spacing of two adjacent gray ...

The Gray Processing of Moon Digital Orthophoto Map

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Considering the mosaic result of the lunar DOM (Digital Orthophoto Map) produced by China's “CE-1” satellite, there usually exists a sharp gray jump beside the joining line. As to a strip image, the gray distribution may be uneven because of the light changing or position difference during photographing.

On MAP optimality of gray-scale morphological filters

Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2002
The estimation of finite-gray-scale digital images corrupted by supremum/infimum noise is posed within the statistical framework of discrete random functions (DRF). It is shown that morphological operators such as openings, closings, supremum of openings and infimum of closings are optimal Maximum-A-Posteriori (MAP) estimators under the assumption that

Gray-scale maps with a personal computer

Computers & Geosciences, 1989
Abstract The presentation of areally distributed data on maps with gray scales is an excellent way to enhance important features of the data. The chance of producing these types of maps with a personal computer and a standard matrix printer, makes it possible to obtain good quality maps at low cost and with limited computer facilities.

Robust color-to-gray via nonlinear global mapping

ACM SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 papers, 2009
This paper presents a fast color-to-gray conversion algorithm which robustly reproduces the visual appearance of a color image in grayscale. The conversion preserves feature discriminability and reasonable color ordering, while respecting the original lightness of colors, by simple optimization of a nonlinear global mapping.

Semi-Invariant Reversible Mapping from Color to Gray

Journal of Imaging Science and Technology, 2008
This paper proposes a reversible algorithm to convert color images to gray images while keeping chroma and spatial resolution. The original method of Braun and de Queiroz [Ref. 5] had theoretical problems such as deterioration in both chroma and spatial resolution.
