Managing healthcare for female BRCA carriers in the population screening era: developing a harmonized national policy for surveillance and risk-reduction

open access: yesIsrael Journal of Health Policy Research
Background The implementation of Israeli National screening for BRCA1/BRCA2 pathogenic variants (PVs) in 2020 has led to a significant increase in the number of unaffected female carriers who are referred to high-risk surveillance clinics (HRSCs).

Family matters: influenza vaccination uptake and associated factors in children aged 6 months–6 years

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
BackgroundInfluenza poses significant health risks to young children, who are more vulnerable to severe complications. Despite effective vaccines, influenza vaccination rates among children are suboptimal.

The Effect of Head Model Simplification on Beamformer Source Localization

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2017
Beamformers are a widely-used tool in brain analysis with magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG). For the construction of the beamformer filters realistic head volume conductor modeling is necessary for accurately computing the EEG

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Empiric treatment and probability estimates before and after a decision support system intervention in a sore throat setting: a scenario-based survey study

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Antimicrobial resistance poses challenges for physicians, who must balance individual patient care and public health when prescribing antibiotics. Machine learning-based computerized decision support systems (ML-CDSS) are increasingly proposed

Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

Adaptive Image Contrast Enhancement by Computing Distances into a 4-Dimensional Fuzzy Unit Hypercube

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
A new fuzzy procedure for adaptive gray-level image contrast enhancement (CE) is presented in this paper. Starting from the pixels belonging to a normalized gray-level image, an appropriate smooth S-shaped fuzzy membership function (MF) is considered for

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
