Gray-Horse Melanoma—A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
Malignant melanoma (MM) affects not only humans but also animals, with gray horses being particularly predisposed to acquiring the disease. Multiomics have greatly advanced the understanding of human MM. In contrasty little is known regarding the pathogenesis of gray-horse melanoma and the unique phenomenon of melanoma “dormancy” in some animals.

Similar Material Simulation Study on Dam Movement and Deformation Law of Deep Coal Seam Mining Under Dam

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Aiming at the difficulties in accurately calculating the movement and deformation of small‐sized, deep‐buried dams with a significant height‐to‐depth ratio in deep fully mechanized caving mining, this study proposes to separate the analysis of surface and dam deformation.

Robust Control Using a Matrix Converter to Enhance Wind Turbine Systems

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study uses a more efficient and effective solution to improve the operational performance of a wind turbine‐based power system. This system uses a doubly fed induction generator and relies on a matrix converter and fractional‐order proportional–integral controller.

Complex phase diagram of Ba$_{1-x}$Na$_{x}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$: a multitude of phases striving for the electronic entropy

open access: yes, 2015
The low-temperature electronic phase diagram of Ba$_{1-x}$Na$_{x}$Fe$_{2}$As$_{2}$, obtained using high-resolution thermal-expansion and specific-heat measurements, is shown to be considerably more complex than previously reported, containing nine ...

Disturbance‐Resilient Voltage/Power‐Quality Management for Islanded Inverters Using Self‐Tuning Type‐3 Fuzzy Controller

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
An adaptive fuzzy controller using an interval type‐3 fuzzy logic system replaces the SMC switching term to mitigate chattering while preserving global stability for islanded inverters. Simulations show lower THD, greater robustness to disturbances and parameter variations, and improved voltage‐tracking accuracy, with applicability to other uncertain ...

Reintroducing the Gray Wolf.

open access: yes, 2020
Earlier this month, the citizens of Colorado passed Proposition 114, a measure that reintroduces gray wolves into the local ecosystem. The measure involves a plan to reintegrate the wolves by the end of 2023. It passed with 50.4% of votes in support and 49.6% in opposition; it was quite controversial.

Development of a Zebrafish Embryo‐Based Test System for Thyroid Hormone System Disruption: 3Rs in Ecotoxicological Research

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract There is increasing concern regarding pollutants disrupting the vertebrate thyroid hormone (TH) system, which is crucial for development. Thus, identification of TH system–disrupting chemicals (THSDCs) is an important requirement in the Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) testing framework.

New Constraints on the Origin of the Short-Term Cyclical Variability of the Wolf-Rayet Star WR 46

open access: yes, 2011
The Wolf-Rayet star WR 46 is known to exhibit a very complex variability pattern on relatively short time scales of a few hours. Periodic but intermittent radial velocity shifts of optical lines as well as multiple photometric periods have been found in ...
