An agent-based model of cattle grazing toxic Geyer's larkspur.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
By killing cattle and otherwise complicating management, the many species of larkspur (Delphinium spp.) present a serious, intractable, and complex challenge to livestock grazing management in the western United States.

Productive and Economic Responses in Grazing Dairy Cows to Grain Supplementation on Family Farms in the South of Brazil

open access: yesAnimals, 2014
Pasture-based dairy production has been a major source of income for most family farms in the south of Brazil. Increasing milk prices have spurred an increase in grain supplementation, which has been poorly implemented, resulting in low levels of ...

Atomic Layer Deposition of Metallic Molybdenum Dioxide Thin Films Enabling High‐k Rutile Capacitors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The first direct atomic layer deposition (ALD) process of molybdenum dioxide (MoO2) thin films is reported using molybdenum(II) acetate dimer (Mo2(OAc)4) and oxygen (O2) as precursors at 235°C–275°C. The films are crystalline, exceptionally pure, and conductive.

Estimated epizoochory seed dispersal distances by grazing yak across seasons in an alpine meadow

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionEpizoochorous dispersal of grassland plants by large herbivores is an important way by which grassland plants achieve population expansion over long distances. However, little is known about the maximum distance that seeds can be dispersed by

Interference of Noxious Shrubs on Grazing Behavior by Bovines

open access: yes, 2019
: The grazing behavior practice by bovines can be positive or negatively influenced by the pasture structure where the animal is inserted. Several factors determine the pasture structure and the presence of weeds is considered one of the most important ...

Stabilizing Electrochemical Interfaces With Multifunctional Cobalt Nitride Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Cobalt nitrides emerged recently as an interesting class of earth‐abundant oxygen evolution catalysts. Herein, plasma‐enhanced atomic layer deposition is used to synthesize multifunctional cobalt nitride layers that simultaneously protect and catalytically activate photoelectrode surfaces.

Linking Device Performance to Nanoscale Photoactivation of Grain Boundaries in 2D Hybrid Halide Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The opto‐electronic response of polycrystalline (PEA)2PbBr4 thin films is investigated by correlating macroscopic photodetector performance with nanoscale mapping techniques. Grain boundary density is systematically tuned through crystallization control and linked to device responsivity.

The Effects of Recording Interval on the Estimation of Grazing Behavior of Cattle in a Daytime Grazing System

open access: yesAsian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2002
The effects of recording interval (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 min) on the estimation of some grazing behavior variables in beef cows and calves ( rumination time>resting time. An increase in recording interval always decreased estimates of the distance walked by animals.

Thickness‐Dependent Infrared Emissivity of Ultrathin Freestanding MoSiN Nanocomposite Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metals and dielectrics show opposite trends in thickness‐dependent infrared emissivity: metallic films exhibit a rise in emissivity below a critical thickness, while dielectric films show a corresponding decline. For applications demanding both high emissivity and mechanical strength in membranes with nanoscale thickness, combining these ...

Institutions, sustainable land use and consumer welfare: the case of forest and grazing lands in northern Ethiopia

open access: yes, 2011
Land is an essential factor of production. Institutions that govern its efficient use determine the sustainability of this essential resource. In Ethiopia all land is publicly owned.
