Effects of Ponderosa Pine Ecological Restoration on Forest Soils and Understory Vegetation in Northern Arizona [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The human exclusion of wildfire and overgrazing by livestock since settlement have caused dramatic changes in ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Dougl ex Laws) forest ecosystems.

Ultrafast Photocatalytic Wettability Switching in Substrate‐Interface Tailored Titanium Dioxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates ultrafast photocatalytic wettability switching in TiO2 thin films by tailoring substrate doping and interface oxides. Enhanced switching rates and hemiwicking effects are achieved through optimized material stacks and nanostructuring.

Moderate grazing promotes the root biomass in Kobresia meadow on the northern Qinghai–Tibet Plateau

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
Grazing is an important modulator of both plant productivity and biodiversity in grassland community, yet how to determine a suitable grazing intensity in alpine grassland is still controversy.

Pollinating insect responses to grazing intensity, grassland characteristics and landscape complexity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Pollinators uphold important ecological functions and their economic and ecological importance is considerable. In the present thesis the relationship between management practices and the behaviour, diversity and composition of four flower visitor groups:

Analytical evaluation of the X-ray scattering contribution to imaging degradation in grazing-incidence X-ray telescopes

open access: yes, 2007
The focusing performance of X-ray optics (conveniently expressed in terms of HEW, Half Energy Width) strongly depend on both mirrors deformations and photon scattering caused by the microroughness of reflecting surfaces.

Phonon Engineering in Ultrathin Sn Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
When embedded in multilayer structures, ultrathin Sn layers demonstrate strongly modified vibrational density of states (VDOS). This allows engineering a drastic increase of the Lamb‐Mössbauer factor fLM$f_{\text{LM}}$ and thereby of the cross‐section for coherent excitation of the ultrasharp nuclear resonance of 119Sn$^{119}{\rm Sn}$. This enables the

Polarization in exoplanetary systems caused by transits, grazing transits, and starspots

open access: yes, 2015
We present results of numerical simulations of flux and linear polarization variations in transiting exoplanetary systems, caused by the host star disk symmetry breaking.
