[Varices of the great saphenous vein].
During a 7-year period, 237 patients were treated surgically at Tromsø Hospital for varices of the great saphenous vein. At follow-up (mean 7.5 years) the overall results were excellent in 30%, good in 47%, and poor in 21% of the patients. The recurrence rate of varicose veins was 47%.

Chemokines and Growth Factors Produced by Lymphocytes in the Incompetent Great Saphenous Vein
The role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of chronic venous disease (CVD) remains obscure. It has been postulated that oscillatory flow present in incompetent veins causes proinflammatory changes. Our earlier study confirmed this hypothesis.
