Anomalies and the Green-Schwarz Mechanism

open access: closed, 2023
Anomalies are a very powerful tool in constraining theories beyond the standard model. We give a pedagogical overview of some topics illustrating the important role played by spacetime anomalies in string theory.

Global gauge anomalies for theories with the Green-Schwarz local-anomaly-cancellation mechanism

open access: closedPhysical Review D, Particles and fields, 1989
We show that theories with the Green-Schwarz mechanism of canceling local anomalies in even dimensions have the possibility of the worst type of global Yang-Mills chiral anomalies given by the homotopy group of the Yang-Mills gauge group.

Generalized Green-Schwarz anomaly cancellation mechanism

open access: closedPhysical Review D, Particles and fields, 1989
We show that the chiral anomaly can be canceled by a single antisymmetric tensor if the anomaly form factorizes into the product of two invariant polynomials of curvature two-forms, R and F.

Supersymmetry algebra of antisymmetric tensors with Green-Schwarz mechanisms

open access: closedPhysical Review D, Particles and fields, 1990
The complete supersymmetry algebra for antisymmetric (second-rank) tensors with different supersymmetric versions of the Green-Schwarz mechanism is determined.

Axions and Anomaly-Mediated Interactions: The Green-Schwarz and Wess-Zumino Vertices at Higher Orders and g-2 of the muon

, 2008
We present a study of the mechanism of anomaly cancellation using only transverse invariant amplitudes on anomaly diagrams at higher perturbative orders.
