A Green‐Ampt Model of infiltration in a cracked soil

Water Resources Research, 1984
The motion of the wetting front in a two‐dimensional Green‐Ampt model of infiltration into a soil containing regularly spaced water‐filled vertical cracks is traced using a stepwise numerical procedure which progressively solves an integral equation for the velocity at points on the front at each time step.

Applicability of the Green-Ampt Infiltration Model with Shallow Boundary Conditions

Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, 2011
The Green-Ampt model is an approximate analytical solution to Richards’ equation that is commonly used to simulate infiltration processes in hydrological models and land surface schemes. The Green-Ampt model assumes that neither a water table nor an impermeable layer (e.g., bedrock or a frost table) exist near the soil surface.

Green-Ampt Infiltration Models for Varied Field Conditions: A Revisit

Water Resources Management, 2011
The Green-Ampt (GA) infiltration model is a simplified version of the physically based full hydrodynamic model, known as the Richards equation. The simplicity and accuracy of this model facilitates for its use in many field problems, such as, infiltration computation in rainfall-runoff modelling, effluent transport in groundwater modelling studies ...

SCS Curve Number and Green-Ampt Infiltration Models

Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, 2019
AbstractSoil Conservation Service curve number (SCS-CN) and Green-Ampt (GA) infiltration models are probably the most applied equations in practical hydrology to compute the amount of direct runoff...

Hydraulic Conductivity and Green-Ampt Infiltration Modeling for Tilled Soils

Transactions of the ASAE, 1988
ABSTRACT Athree layer infiltration model was formulated using the Green-Ampt approach. The characteristics of the surface and tilled layers are transient, being subject to surface sealing and consolidation, respectively. A relationship for the hydraulic conductivity of the tilled layer as a function of soil and applied rainfall characteristics was ...

A Comparison of the Curve Number and Green-Ampt Models in an Agricultural Watershed

Transactions of the ASABE, 2013
The curve number and Green-Ampt rainfall-runoff models were compared in the highly agricultural San Joaquin River watershed in California using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). The rainfall-runoff models were left uncalibrated to objectively assess model performances; however, streamflow simulations showed high accuracy compared to observed ...

Modeling Infiltration into Crusted Soils by the Green—Ampt Approach

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1983
Abstract The study deals with infiltration of water through a stable surface crust, wherein the water content at the crust‐soil interface increases with time for a long period, and remains below the saturated value. An approximate Green‐Ampt‐type formulation derived from a physical basis, containing a time‐dependent capillary drive ...

Predicting Flow in Subsurface Agricultural Drains Using the Green-Ampt Model

World Water & Environmental Resources Congress 2003, 2003
A simple model for event-based transient flow to a subsurface tile drain was developed. Green-Ampt theory was used to describe redistribution of infiltrated water in the vadose zone. Semi-analytical solutions in terms of Fourier series were sought for the Boussinesq equation describing subsurface saturated flow subjected to time-dependent recharge ...

Runoff and Peak Discharges Using Green‐Ampt Infiltration Model

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1991
The Green-Ampt infiltration model is used to predict runoff from 12 rangeland and cropland watersheds in Montana and Wyoming. Soil parameters derived from data in standard USDA soil surveys are used, and 99 rainfall events are modeled. The runoff distributions obtained from the model are then used with a hydrograph model to predict the peak discharge ...
