Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Rapid, Precise Parameter Optimization and Performance Prediction for Multi-Diode Photovoltaic Model Using Puma Optimizer

open access: yesEnergies
Photovoltaic (PV) technology is essential for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. PV system efficiency is highly sensitive to irradiance, temperature, and shading.

Improvement in Color-Conversion Efficiency and Stability for Quantum-Dot-Based Light-Emitting Diodes Using a Blue Anti-Transmission Film

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2018
In this report, a blue anti-transmission film (BATF) has been introduced to improve the color-conversion efficiency (CCE) and the stability of quantum dot (QD) films. The results indicate that the CCE can be increased by as much as 93% using 15 layers of

Quantum interference through gated single-molecule junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss the general form of the transmission spectrum through a molec- ular junction in terms of the Green function of the isolated molecule. By introducing a tight binding method, we are able to translate the Green func- tion properties into ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Phonon origin of low energy and high energy kinks in high temperature cuprate superconductors

open access: yes, 2010
Eliashberg theory generalized for the account of the electron-hole nonequivalence and electron correlations in the vertex function is used. The phonon contribution to the nodal electron Green function in cuprates is viewed.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Green Security Plugin for Pervasive Computing using the HADAS toolkit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Energy is a critical resource in pervasive computing devices. However, information about energy consumption is not directly accessible through software development environments, making it difficult to reuse the knowledge provided by existing energy ...

Towards a sustainable economy? Socio-technical transitions in the green building sector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Making the transition to a green economy is a major policy driver in the UK and other countries. Entrepreneurs are suggested as being at the forefront of this transition and as a driving force for sustainability. These “green entrepreneurs” may represent

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
