Conservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.This study investigated consistency in habitat selection over a 12‐year period in a breeding population of Ortolan Bunting in Uelzen, Lower Saxony (Germany). We demonstrate strong interannual variation in crop type preferences and avoidance and breeding territories were strongly associated with well‐drained soils with low soil fertility.
