Green manures in potato rotations
American Potato Journal, 1934From the evidence at hand it seems to be a practical procedure to use non-legumes as green manures for potatoes. Non-egumes can be grown on soils at a pH of 5.5 or lower more successfully than legumes. A rotation can be arranged which, according to our present knowledge will escape danger of wire worms and grubs.

2020Green manuring is an arable-farming practice in which undecomposed green material is incorporated (in situ/harvested elsewhere) into soil in order to increase productivity of subsequent crops. Green manure crop is to be turned into the soil at the point of flowering, i.e., about 7–8 weeks from sowing in most crops.
