ADN – THE NEW OXIDIZER AROUND THE CORNER FOR AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY SMOKELESS PROPELLANT. doi:10.5028/jatm.2009.0102153160

open access: yesJournal of Aerospace Technology and Management, 2011
The search for a smokeless propellant has encouraged scientists and engineers to look for a chlorine-free oxidizer as a substitute for AP (ammonium perchlorate).

Development and Characterization of Hydrogen Peroxide Gels with Organic Gelling Agents for Use with Microencapsulated Fuels

open access: yesAerospace
Hydrogen peroxide is a promising oxidizer and monopropellant for space propulsion, offering a green alternative to conventional propellants. In combination with microencapsulated hydrocarbon fuels, a new type of monopropellant can be formed that unites ...

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.

Interaction‐Driven Assembly Pathways in Heterogeneous Active Microrobotic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Peanut‐ and cube‐shaped light‐powered microrobots exhibit distinct magnetic and photocatalytic responses that determine their heterogeneous self‐assembly. In the dark, magnetic dipole interactions drive colloidal copolymerization with cubes acting as nucleation centers, whereas under light irradiation, phoretic interactions compete with magnetic ...

Enhanced thermal performance and hydrochloric acid gas (HCl) emission mitigation in ammonium perchlorate (AP)-Based solid propellants with potassium permanganate (KMnO4)/AP dual oxidisers

open access: yesAtmospheric Environment: X
The conventional propellant used in rocket boosters and tactical missiles commonly utilises ammonium perchlorate (AP). However, the release of harmful chloride fumes resulting from the combustion of AP during rocket launches contributes to a 1 % increase

Molecular Rotors: From Newtonian Fluids to Functional Materials as Viscosity and Temperature Sensing Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular rotors are fluorescent molecules that are sensitive to viscosity and temperature variations in the environment. They exhibit a direct correlation between fluorescence and viscosity within Newtonian fluids. However, this correlation becomes less straightforward in complex systems.

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Investigation of Combustion Performance of Hypergolic Ionic Liquid Fuels Through Injector Design

open access: yesAerospace
Hypergolic ionic liquid fuels are promising alternatives to the toxic hydrazine-based propellants. The present study investigates the combustion performance of a fuel composed of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate ([EMIM][SCN]) and copper(I ...

Dynamics of electrically controlled propellant valves for “green”-propellant thrusters

open access: yesTechnical mechanics
Recently, the leading space countries have paid much attention to searching for and using new types of untoxic “green” propellants. Developments of 0.1 N to 220 N “green”-propellant thrusters have been reported, and some of them have been successfully tested in flight conditions.
