Analysis of the impact of opening and sharing of affiliated green spaces on the accessibility and equal access of green spaces: a case study in Shanghai

open access: yesDiscover Sustainability
Within the context of limited land resources in densely populated urban areas, the opening and sharing of affiliated green spaces have become an innovative way to expand urban green spaces.

Green Spaces as an Indicator of Urban Health: Evaluating Its Changes in 28 Mega-Cities

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
Urban green spaces can yield considerable health benefits to urban residents. Assessing these health benefits is a key step for managing urban green spaces for human health and wellbeing in cities. In this study, we assessed the change of health benefits

Research on the Complexity of Forms and Structures of Urban Green Spaces Based on Fractal Models

open access: yesComplexity, 2020
The fractal nature of urban green spaces is the product of the self-organizing evolution of the complex urban system into a higher stage, and orderly patterns and complex structures of urban green spaces will tend to manifest after they develop to a ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Examining the association between physical characteristics of green space and land Surface temperature: A case study of Ulsan, Korea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The rapid increase of impervious surfaces and the dense development that accompanies urban growth has reduced the amount of green space in urban landscapes and increased urban surface temperatures.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Avian biodiversity in the urban green spaces of Paris: higher bird species richness in larger parks and park centers

open access: yesAvian Conservation and Ecology
Diverse anthropogenic threats drive bird population declines, especially for species living in urban areas. Through studies of avian species richness in urban green spaces, i.e., the parks, gardens, and cemeteries of modern cities, we gain a deeper ...
