Proof-of-principle of surface detection with air-guided quantum cascade lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We report a proof-of-principle of surface detection with air-guided quantum cascade lasers. Laser ridges were designed to exhibit an evanescent electromagnetic field on their top surface that can interact with material or liquids deposited on the device.

The Relation between Green Visual Index and Visual Comfort in Qingdao Coastal Streets

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
The public’s mental health is obviously impacted by the perception of green quantity in urban streets. As one of the important urban spatial indicators, the Green View Index (GVI) reflects the green quantity of streets, which is helpful in revealing the ...

A theory of photospheric emission from relativistic, collimated outflows

open access: yes, 2012
Relativistic outflows in the form of jets are common in many astrophysical objects. By their very nature, jets have angle dependent velocity profiles, Gamma = Gamma(r, theta, phi), where Gamma is the outflow Lorentz factor.

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Para-Generalization of Peierls Bracket Quantization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A convenient formalism is developed to treat classical dynamical systems involving $(p=2)$ parafermionic and parabosonic dynamical variables. This is achieved via the introduction of a parabracket which summarizes the paracommutation relations of the ...

Evaluating Urban Greenery Through the Front-Facing Street View Imagery: Insights from a Nanjing Case Study

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information
Street view imagery has become a vital tool for assessing urban street greenery, with the Green View Index (GVI) serving as the predominant metric. However, while GVI effectively quantifies overall greenery, it fails to capture the nuanced, human-scale ...
