Greenhouse Horticulture

2009
Greenhouse cultivation has a long history and it is difficult to appoint where the first greenhouse was built. Such an appointment directly is hindered by a good definition of a greenhouse. However, independent of a precise definition, undoubtedly, one or more orangeries at castles or palaces will be mentioned, but no one can testify whether it really ...

Pondering Greenhouse Policy

Science, 1993
Although praiseworthy in many respects, the article by Nordhaus has two problems. The first is that he considers the impact of uncertainty to be minor, an assumption that has been shown to be doubtful (1). The second, and perhaps more subtle, problem arises from framing the analysis in terms of the prospects of a mythical" average global citizen."The ...

The greenhouse effect

Environmental Science & Technology, 1982
The climate change induced by man-made releases of carbon dioxide and other trace gases is discussed. The level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased from an estimated 293 ppm in 1880 to 335 ppm in 1980, due mainly to the increased use of fossil fuels. That level is expected to double in the next century.

Other Greenhouse Gases

2012
Methane, CH4 is a more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2 but its concentration is much less. It is produced by anaerobic bacteria. These occur in bogs and rice paddies, but also in the intestines of ruminant animals (cattle) and termites. Before oxygen appeared in Earth’s atmosphere methane may have been the most important greenhouse gas.

GREENHOUSE SIMULATION MODELS

Acta Horticulturae, 1989
A model is a representation of a real system to describe some properties i.e. internal factors of that system (out-puts) as function of some external factors (inputs). It is impossible to describe the relation between all internal factors (if even all internal factors could be defined) and all external factors (if also even all these factors could be ...

The objective of the study was to determine the technical and economical aspects of additional applications for a rainwater basin installed under a greenhouse. The installation for cooling the greenhouse can be placed under the greenhouse. Part of the installation consists of a short-term heat store needed to lower the flow capacity of the aquifer ...
