Biodegradable 3D‐Printable and Coatable Antifouling Composites for Marine Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Marine biofouling damages submerged surfaces and raises greenhouse gas emissions. Biodegradable antifouling biocomposites were developed by hot‐mixing beeswax, Tween 80, and calcium stearate or stearic acid. Adjusting the component ratio enables processing via hot‐pressing, 3D‐printing, or dip‐coating.

Halide Composition Controls Phase Morphology and Device Specific Performance in Perovskite Photovoltaics and Light Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that halide composition determines phase morphology, governing distinct operating mechanisms in mixed halide perovskites. Phase segregating 75% Br compositions enhance solar cell performance, whereas intrinsically phase‐separated 95% Br compositions provide stable light emitting diodes.

Solar PV Lighting and Studying after Sunset: Analysis of Micro-benefits in Off-grid Rural Ghana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Solar PV light provides school children living in off-grid rural communities the opportunity to have clean and bright lighting to study after sunset. On the contrary, lighting provided from poor sources can pollute and adversely affect human eyes during ...

Improved Strategy for Virtual Daily Light Integral with CO2 Supplementation in Greenhouses

open access: yesHortTechnology
Supplemental CO2 in greenhouses can reduce the lighting required to achieve a particular yield. Systems that can also control deployable shades are very desirable for light-sensitive crops such as lettuce, which is susceptible to leaf tipburn if exposed ...

Engineering Concentration‐Dependent Intravitreal Mobility via Cyclic Arginine‐Enriched Nanocarrier Surface Modification: In Vivo Proof‐of‐Concept in a Porcine Large Animal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, Hammer et al. highlight cyclic‐arginine surface engineering as a highly biocompatible, controllable, and concentration‐dependent regulator of intravitreal nanoparticle mobility in vivo in a translational large animal model. The cyclic arginine surface‐modification supports the development of next‐generation biomaterials for long‐acting ...

De Limes in de provincie Gelderland. Plan van Aanpak. Verkenning en kartering terreinen

open access: yes, 2015

Comparison of Life-cycle Cost Analysis and Simple Payback Methods for Evaluating Cost-effectiveness of Greenhouse Supplemental Lighting Systems

open access: yesHortTechnology
Life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and simple payback are two methods of estimating the cost-effectiveness of a business decision. LCCA considers factors that simple payback does not, such as the time value of money and energy price escalation. Several case

Source for Gloxinia (Sinningia Spp.) and Potato (Solanum Tuberosum) Micropropagation

open access: yesASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development, 2017
An efficient lighting system (Compact 3U) was successfully applied to the micropropagation of gloxinia and potato plants. To compare the in vitro growth of plantlets under Neon and Compact 3U lighting systems, gloxinia and potato shoots were cultured on ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Energy-neutral solar-powered street lighting with predictive and adaptive behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Street lighting can enhance the safety and security of residential and commercial areas. However, its installation and operation is expensive: cables must be installed, and power is drawn from the grid which is typically dominated by non-renewable ...
