The Ice Sheets of Greenland and Antarctica

1984
In the preceding chapters we have extensively discussed the theory of ice flow, thermodynamics of ice sheets, numerical modelling, and in general terms the interaction of ice sheets and climate. This should be the proper background to have a closer look now at the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica, being the only presently existing large ice ...

Controls on ice dynamics of the Greenland ice sheet

2021
In recent decades, the Greenland Ice Sheet has lost mass at an accelerating rate, such that it is now the largest individual cryospheric contributor to global sea level rise. This mass loss occurs as a combination of an increase in the melting of ice at the ice sheet surface as well as increased submarine melting and iceberg calving at marine ...

Processes of buildup and retreat of the Greenland Ice Sheet

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 1999
Sensitivity experiments were conducted to study the influence of several physical processes on the evolution of the Greenland ice sheet over the last 250,000 years. The experiments were carried out by means of a three‐dimensional thermodynamical model. The mass balance is modeled by a surface energy balance model.

Memory of the Greenland Ice Sheet

2010
A series of palaeoclimatic computations is performed in order to study the memory of the Greenland ice sheet, namely the information on the choice of the initial state, which is kept in the interior of the ice-sheet model after many thousands of integration years.
