Efficient embeddings of grids into grids
An embedding of a graph \(G\) into a graph \(H\) is a pair of two mappings: an injection \(\phi:V_G\mapsto V_H\) and a routing scheme that maps \(E_G\) into the set of paths in \(H\). The authors consider two embedding parameters: dilation, defined as the length of a longest path in the image of the routing scheme, and the edge-congestion, defined as ...

Scintillating Grid Illusion Without the Grid [PDF]
The scintillating grid illusion is a phenomenon where illusory black spots are perceived on white patches located at the intersections of a grid pattern. In this study, I report that the illusory spots as observed in the illusion are perceived with a stimulus pattern without grid bars.

From the grid to the smart grid, topologically [PDF]
The Smart Grid is not just about the digitalization of the Power Grid. In its more visionary acceptation, it is a model of energy management in which the users are engaged in producing energy as well as consuming it, while having information systems fully aware of the energy demand-response of the network and of dynamically varying prices.

Grid Minors in Damaged Grids [PDF]
We prove upper and lower bounds on the size of the largest square grid graph that is a subgraph, minor, or shallow minor of a graph in the form of a larger square grid from which a specified number of vertices have been deleted. Our bounds are tight to within constant factors.

A Core Grid Ontology for the Semantic Grid [PDF]
In this paper, we propose a Core Grid Ontology (CGO) that defines fundamental Grid-specific concepts, and the relationships between them. One of the key goals is to make this Core Grid Ontology general enough and easily extensible to be used by different Grid architectures or Grid middleware, so that the CGO can provide a common basis for representing ...

The role of temperature in the variability and extremes of electricity and gas demand in Great Britain [PDF]
The daily relationship of electricity and gas demand with temperature in Great Britain is analysed from 1975 to 2013 and 1996 to 2013 respectively. The annual mean and annual cycle amplitude of electricity demand exhibit low frequency variability.

MAGDA: A Mobile Agent based Grid Architecture [PDF]
Mobile agents mean both a technology and a programming paradigm. They allow for a flexible approach which can alleviate a number of issues present in distributed and Grid-based systems, by means of features such as migration, cloning, messaging and other
