Inverse time overcurrent protection for low-frequency wind farm transmission lines based on transient current components

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Low-Frequency Transmission Systems (LFTS) integrate the benefits of both high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission technologies. This combination makes LFTS a significant innovation for transmitting large

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Service restoration strategy for active distribution networks considering source-load uncertainty

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Active distribution networks (ADNs) incorporate numerous distributed generations (DGs) and energy storage systems. When sudden faults occur in the system, service restoration can be enhanced through microgrid formation and network reconfiguration ...

Electromagnetic compatibility studies within smart grid automated substations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Switching, fault currents, lightning and other transient phenomena produce electromagnetic fields that may disturb the normal functioning of a high voltage power substation. With the advent of the ‘smart grid’ – where electronic control and communication

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Multi-terminal flexible DC grid circuit breaker withstands multi-lightning strike analysis

open access: yesScientific Reports
Lightning represents the primary threat to power grids, with approximately 80% of natural occurrences being multi-lightning strikes, which have been extensively studied and confirmed to pose even more severe hazards.

Defense strategy against cyber-physical coordinated false data injection attacks in cyber-physical power systems

open access: yesResults in Engineering
With the deep integration of cyber-physical power systems (CPPS), cyber-physical coordinated false data injection attacks (FDIAs) have emerged as a new risk threatening the security of power grids.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.
