Grid-Following Inverters and Synchronous Condensers: A Grid-Forming Pair?

2020 Clemson University Power Systems Conference (PSC), 2020
As power systems across the globe continue to achieve higher instantaneous penetrations of power electronic converter-interfaced renewable sources, the stability of these power systems is challenged because of the removal of synchronous machines, from which stability is traditionally derived.

Comparison of the grid forming and grid following inverters connected to a real grid

2023
The growing utilization of wind and solar energy within energy grids has led to a demand for advanced technologies to oversee inverters effectively. These technologies are necessary for the smooth inclusion of renewable energy sources in the grid. Inverters hold a significant position in energy networks.

Grid-Following and Grid-Forming Converter Control Comparison Under Fault Conditions

2021 IEEE 12th Energy Conversion Congress & Exposition - Asia (ECCE-Asia), 2021
Traditionally control of grid-connected converters is based on a grid-following structure, where a Phase Locked Loop is responsible for tracking the angle of the AC grid. However, such control structure leads to stability problems for weak and low inertia grids. Then, a grid-forming control structure is presented as a potential solution.

Dynamic Grid Frequency Support using a Self-Synchronising Grid-Following Inverter

2021 IEEE 12th Energy Conversion Congress & Exposition - Asia (ECCE-Asia), 2021
This paper uses a self-synchronising grid-following inverter to provide dynamic frequency support for a low inertia grid system. The approach uses frequency deviations from nominal, as measured from the inverter current controller outputs, to shape a power reference based on these grid frequency variations during a transient event. This power reference

Language function following subdural grid-directed temporal lobectomy

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 2009
The purpose of the study was to determine the extent to which a temporal resection may be undertaken without producing risk to temporal language areas. Patients undergoing craniotomy and placement of a subdural electrode array (SEA) for evaluation of intractable epilepsy were studied to determine the variability of distance of temporal language cortex ...
