Solar power edges towards grid parity
Physics World, 2009The largest thin-film solar-power plant in Northern America was opened at the end of December on an 30 hectare site 60 km southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. Built by California-based Sempra Generation, the estimated $40m plant will use 167 000 solar modules of cadmium telluride (CdTe) semiconductors to convert sunlight into electricity.

Efficiency Innovations in Polysilicon Production Accelerate Grid Parity
Open Journal of Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development, 2015The solar industry is a diversified set of global markets with all manufacturing stages dispersed worldwide, from production of the raw material polysilicon, to the final product of electricity generated by solar modules. However, recent developments within this global value chain, such as the emergence of large low cost manufacturing capacities ...

Grid parity analysis of solar photovoltaic systems in Europe
International Journal of Ambient Energy, 2013Photovoltaic (PV) power generation plays an important role in future sustainable energy mixes due to its high reliability, yield predictability and capacity for electricity production during peak demand when the electricity price is usually high. But still today, the economic viability of this technology depends on the subsidies usually granted by ...

Oerlikon Solar’s Key Performance Drivers to Grid Parity
2010Oerlikon Solar’s next generation fab, THINFAB, will enable total module production costs of 0.5 €/Wp and a 120 MWp output capacity. The key performance drivers to make solar power economically viable are module efficiency, high productivity of the manufacturing line and low module material costs.

Grid Parity and its Implications for Energy Policy and Regulation
2014The transformational possibilities of photovoltaics (PV) were recognized very early in its development but it has taken more than 50 years to begin to fully realize this potential. Recent years have seen extraordinary uptake and price reductions driven by ongoing technology progress yet also, critically, PV specific deployment policies in some key ...

Grid-Parity Solar Power for Department of Defense Installations
2014Abstract : According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration s 2011 Annual Energy Outlook, fossil fuels make up over 85% of the US s current fuel use for energy generation. Despite optimistic growth for the use of renewable energy fuels, the EIA still forecasts over 78% fossil fuel use for energy generation by 2035.
