New Control Method Including State Observer of Voltage Unbalance for Grid Voltage-Source Converters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2010
New observer-based disturbance-estimation and control algorithms are introduced in this paper that compensate source voltage unbalances. The algorithms are also designed to compensate the detrimental impact of delay effects caused by the digital-signal processing.

Particle filter based grid synchronization with voltage unbalance and frequency variation in smart grid

2013 International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing, 2013
Computing the phase angle of a three-phase voltage signal in utility grid is critical for the synchronization of smart grid. Only if the phase angle is accurately estimated, the energy transfer between the distributed power generators and the utility grid can be properly controlled.

Optimal control of three-phase PV inverter under Grid voltage unbalance

2019 21st European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE '19 ECCE Europe), 2019
Typical three-phase PV inverter is designed to operate under balanced grid voltage conditions. At low voltage distribution grid, beyond utility power meters, grid unbalance conditions can be often found. Under grid voltage unbalance, a typical three-phase PV inverter with conventional control exhibits poor performance resulting in potential loss of ...

Voltage Unbalance-Cognizant Optimization of Distribution Grids

2023
With the power grid getting greener and smarter by the day, a slew of new challenges arise to overcome. Distributed sources of energy like solar panels and batteries are being added to the grid right from the household level. While they are desirable for reducing our need for traditional sources of energy, the addition of these resources has been shown

An improved control strategy of STATCOM for grid voltage unbalance compensation

TENCON 2015 - 2015 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2015
An improved dual-loop control strategy is proposed in this paper to improve the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) operation performance under grid voltage unbalance conditions. In the proposed method, the second order harmonic resonant control blocks are added on the positive sequence control blocks to form the outer controller, and the negative

The influence of grid-connected three-phase inverters on voltage unbalance

IEEE PES General Meeting, 2010
The increasing presence of single-phase distributed generators and unbalanced loads in the electric power system may lead to unbalance of the three phase voltages, resulting in increased losses and heating. To decrease this voltage unbalance problem three-phase four-wire inverter-connected distributed generation units may be used.

Extended Kalman filter based grid synchronization in the presence of voltage unbalance for smart grid

ISGT 2011, 2011
In this paper, grid synchronization for gird-connected power generation systems in the presence of voltage unbalance and frequency variation is considered. A new extended Kalman filter based synchronization algorithm is proposed to track the phase angle of the utility network.

Effects of randomly charging electric vehicles on voltage unbalance in micro grids

2015 50th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC), 2015
Unscheduled charging of Electric Vehicles (EVs) may shift voltage unbalance beyond the desired limit. Effects of uncoordinated charging of EVs were assessed by calculating voltage magnitudes and voltage unbalances at the end node of a residential feeder.

Effect of grid voltage unbalance on operation of a bi-directional converter

2008 40th North American Power Symposium, 2008
This paper describes the modeling of a 3-phase AC-DC-AC converter with two back to back space vector modulated voltage source inverters connected to a DC link. The converter allows four-quadrant operation in the P-Q plane and can be used to connect regenerative loads.

FPGA based DSC-PLL for grid harmonics and voltage unbalance effect elimination

2015 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2015
In this paper, the design of DSC-PLL (Delayed Signal Cancellation Phase Locked Loop) based on FPGA is discussed. This method shows outstanding performance for detection of fundamental positive sequence component voltage when the grid voltage is polluted by grid harmonics and voltage unbalance.
