Modeling of the Evolution of the Microstructure and the Hardness Penetration Depth for a Hypoeutectoid Steel Processed by Grind-Hardening

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Grind-hardening processing is an emerging approach that combines the grinding and surface quenching process. During the process, the hardened layer—mainly martensite—is produced on the surface of the workpiece to achieve the purpose of surface ...

Photoinduced Interfacial Electronic Modulation in Fe2O3‐BiVO4 Heterostructures for Enhanced Photo‐Assisted Zn‐Air Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light irradiation activates the Fe2O3‐BiVO4 heterostructure, enabling efficient solar‐electrochemical coupling in zinc‐air batteries. The built‐in electric field drives directional charge separation, guiding photoelectrons toward oxygen reduction sites and accumulating holes for oxygen evolution, thereby reducing polarization and enhancing discharge ...

Beyond Thin Film Limits—Superhard and Hydrogen‐Free Amorphous Carbon Coatings With Over 100 µm Thickness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
For the first time, an extreme‐thick laser‐arc PVD ta‐C (DLC) coating exceeding 100 µm is demonstrated, opening up new possibilities for ultra‐high load bearing capacity. This superhard amorphous carbon architecture combines >50% sp3 bonding, robust adhesion and self‐supporting performance, shielding substrates from plastic flow under extreme contact ...

Distribution of temperature fields and specific reductions at grinding balls rolling

open access: yesFerrous Metallurgy. Bulletin of Scientific , Technical and Economic Information, 2019
During the high hardness grinding balls production the following to the process parameters is the key requirement. The temperature and the deformation uniformity are main parameters at the high hardness grinding balls rolling. Reduction forces can be estimated by modeling, but in this case, they were determined analytically, based on the distribution ...

Unexpected Asymmetric Mn‐Sb Site Mixing and Reentrant Spin‐Glass State of MnSb2Te4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MnSb2Te4 is an intrinsic magnetic topological insulator. Its properties are extraordinarily sensitive to tiny defects, making structural studies essential for understanding how magnetism and topology work together. This work shows that Mn can be unevenly distributed within the crystal and how that disorder is linked to a newly reported spin‐glass state

Emergence of a Hexagonal Fe2S2 Single Layer Without a Bulk Counterpart via Phase Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Upon annealing, single‐layer Mackinawite iron sulfide transforms into a previously unknown hexagonal Fe2S2${\rm Fe}_2{\rm S}_2$ phase with β$\beta$‐CuI structure. STM, LEED, and first‐principles calculations identify the structure and show that electronic correlations and magnetic order are important for its stability.
