DNA minor groove binders: Back in the groove
Cancer Treatment Reviews, 2009With recent approval of the minor groove binding agent trabectidin in Europe for the treatment of patients with soft tissue sarcomas, there has been renewed interest in minor groove binders. Though previously considered to be without clinical value due to their initial significant toxicities, new minor groove binders are emerging which are challenging ...

Comparison between groove carcinoma and groove pancreatitis
Pancreatology, 2018The pancreatoduodenal groove (anatomical groove) is a potential space bordered by the head of the pancreas, duodenum, and common bile duct. Discerning between groove carcinoma (GC) and groove pancreatitis (GP) is often difficult, but clinically important.

We present a case of this uncommon congenital anomaly of the perineum. A 6-month-old baby had a perineal groove excised for cosmetic reasons. The histology showed a strip of squamous epithelium with an intervening area lined by rectal type of mucosa, suggesting an embryological remnant such as urorectal septum.

Groove pancreatitis is characterized by the formation of a scar plate between the head of the pancreas and the duodenum, and is by no means a rare entity. In our material comprising surgical specimens, it was found to be present in 19.5% of the cases. This form of pancreatitis is "special" only on account of the topography of the scar tissue.

Envisioning how T cells might recognize antigen presented by major histocompatibility complex molecules proved to be a formidable challenge. Pamela Bjorkman describes her journey to provide structural insights into how such recognition is achieved.

Endosonography of Groove Pancreatitis
Endoscopy, 1991Groove pancreatitis is a rare form of chronic pancreatitis. Distinction between pancreatitis and pancreatic carcinoma is often difficult. Two cases of groove pancreatitis diagnosed by endosonography are described. A hypoechoic pattern between the duodenal wall and pancreas was clearly imaged in both patients.

Variation in ways in which proteins can identify and lock on to genes due for transcription is illuminated by studies of the Arc repressor, which has a beta-sheet, rather than alpha-helical, recognition motif.
