The Gross–Pitaevskii (GP) Equation

Abstract In the next few chapters we cover some further techniques based on NLS-type equations by focusing on a particularly attractive application in atomic physics: Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). The mean-field dynamics of BECs can be modeled by the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation which is a generalization of the NLS equation that ...

On the derivation of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation

2005
This article reflects in its content the talk the author gave at the XVII Congresso dell'Unione Matematica Italiana, held in Milano, 8-13 September 2003. We review about some recent results on the problem of deriving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in dimension one from the dynamics of a quantum system with a large number of identical bosons.

ANALOG GRAVITY IN GROSS-PITAEVSKII EQUATION

We study the dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) to find solutions that correspond to a sonic black/white hole. In such configurations, the condensate goes from subsonic to supersonic when crossing a particular region that can be understood as a horizon. This is because sound cannot go back from the supersonic to the subsonic region. Therefore,
