Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy
Il Nuovo Cimento C, 1996This report covers developments in the field of gamma-ray astronomy, essentially in the energy range 300 GeV to 300 TeV, reported at the XXIV International Cosmic-Ray Conference in Rome in 1995. Highlights which receive the main attention are the failure of several experiments to detect TeV photons from several supernova remnants at the level predicted

Prospects for development of ground-based optical astronomy
Soviet Physics Uspekhi, 1975A number of refinements in ground-based optical telescopes and their detecting equipment, and also serious development of measures for neutralization of interference effects of the earth's atmosphere, permit the efficiency of observation of faint astronomical objects to be improved by at least an order of magnitude in the coming years.

GLAST and Ground-based γ-ray astronomy
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007The launch of the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) in 2007 will open the possibility of combined studies of astrophysical sources with existing ground-based VHE {gamma}-ray experiments such as H.E.S.S., VERITAS and MAGIC. Ground-based {gamma}-ray observatories provide complementary capabilities for spectral, temporal, spatial and population

Neural nets for ground-based γ-ray astronomy
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2003Abstract The application of the artificial neural networks to data processing in the domain of the atmospheric Cherenkov γ-ray telescopes is considered. The main problems arising from the specifics of these experiments, such as low signal, pairs of ON–OFF observations, instability of the background events, and their influence on the analysis are ...

The future of ground-based gamma-ray astronomy
Rendiconti Lincei. Scienze Fisiche e Naturali, 2019Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy is a young branch of high-energy astrophysics, addressing the highest energies in the electromagnetic spectrum. TeV photons cannot be produced by “ordinary” stars since they require quite extreme conditions, thus they allow the study of extreme astrophysical objects such as supernova remnants, neutron stars, black holes,

A Program of Ground-Based Astronomy to Complement Einstein Observations.
1982Abstract : The objective of the funded research is to formulate and carry out a program of ground-based astronomical observations to complement X-ray data accumulated with the Einstein Observatory, and to use the results of these multiwavelength studies in addressing a number of significant astrophysical problems of current interest.

The Maintenance of the Astronomical Environment for Ground Based Astronomy
1994The major factors degrading the environment for ground based astronomy are reviewed and an outline is given of the efforts now being made to combat them. While the outlook is very grim for the continuance of observations, at any wavelength, of the faintest cosmic sources, there is evidence that cause for guarded optimism still remains.

Background Modeling in Ground Based Cherenkov Astronomy
2005Ground based Cherenkov telescope systems measure astrophysical γ-rayemission against a background of cosmic ray induced air-showers. The subtraction of this background is a major challenge for the extraction of the spectra and morphology of gamma-ray sources.
