Sea and ground radar clutter modeling

2008 IEEE Radar Conference, 2008
The modeling of the clutter echoes is a central issue for the design and performance evaluation of radar systems. The aim of this paper is to describe the state-of-the-art approaches to the modeling and understanding of land and sea clutter echoes and their implications on performance prediction and signal processors design.

Suppression of ground and weather clutter

IEE Proceedings F Communications, Radar and Signal Processing, 1981
It is shown that Weibull-distributed weather clutter obeys a Weibull distribution after passing through a moving target indicator (MTI) processor realised by a double canceller. Both ground and weather clutter can be thus suppressed by using the method of MTI and new Weibull constant false alarm rate (CFAR) systems.

Statistical analyses of measured radar ground clutter data

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1999
The performance of ground-based surveillance radars strongly depends on the distribution and spectral characteristics of ground clutter. To design signal processing algorithms that exploit the knowledge of clutter characteristics, a preliminary statistical analysis of ground-clutter data is necessary.

Polarisation behaviour off ground clutter during dwell time

IEE Proceedings F Radar and Signal Processing, 1991
The paper analyses the behaviour of ground clutter during dwell time in a lowresolution radar. The analysis is made with reference to measurements made through a pulse radar using right-handed circular polarisation at transmit and two orthogonally circularly polarised channels on reception.

MTI Processing and Weibull-Distributed Ground Clutter

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 1982
It is shown that the Weibull-distributed ground clutter obeys a Weibull distribution after processing by the double canceler moving target indicator (MTI).

Addressing Ground Clutter Corruption of Sodar Measurements

45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007
Echoes from ground clutter around a SODAR may result in a low bias in the wind speed measured by a SODAR. Typically, some, but not all, of the data collected by a SODAR at a site with ground clutter may be corrupted in this manner. In this study, methods to identify acceptable data points in already-collected data are explored, as well as the use of ...

Airborne ground clutter measurement system design considerations

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 1988
Geometric limits, calibration considerations, and error analysis are discussed for an L-band airborne clutter measurement system designed to collect simultaneous bistatic and monostatic clutter measurements in support of the hybrid bistatic radar (HBR) system. The geometric limit is only one of the actual limits to the experimental accuracy.

Global clutter statistics for ground based radars

21st IEEE Convention of the Electrical and Electronic Engineers in Israel. Proceedings (Cat. No.00EX377), 2002
Ground clutter is a factor which limits radar ability to detect low-flying targets. A new physical model is proposed from which the global statistics of the clutter are derived. The observed specific clutter of the ground for this model is shown to follow a Weibull distribution with spread parameter equal to /spl radic/5.

Ground clutter simulation for surface-based radars

Proceedings International Radar Conference, 2002
This paper presents a site specific ground clutter simulation developed for ground-based radars. The simulation provides clutter power maps according to digital terrain relief and landcover information. The comparison between simulated clutter and actual clutter shows that a good accuracy in clutter simulation can be achieved even for complex ...

Statistical Analysis of High-Resolution SAR Ground Clutter Data

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2007
This paper deals with the problem of modeling high-resolution synthetic aperture radar clutter data from different vegetated areas. We analyzed moving and stationary target recognition (MSTAR) data sets focusing on histograms, moments, and covariance of clutter amplitude, texture, and speckle.
