Determining Ground Winds for Gear-on-the-Ground Accidents Using FDR Data

AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technologies Conference, 2011
On December 20, 2008, Continental Airlines flight 1404, a Boeing 737-500, departed the left side of runway 34R at Denver International Airport, Denver, Colorado, while attempting to take off, resulting in 6 serious and 41 minor injuries. To investigate the Continental flight 1404 takeoff accident, it was necessary to determine the winds acting on the ...

Displacements in worm gears with ground concave worm profile

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1996
Abstract A computer program based on finite elements has been used for the calculation of displacements in the worm and the gear of a cylindrical worm gear drive with concave worm profile, ground by a grinding wheel of double arc profile. The influence of the design parameters of the worm gear drive and of the load position on displacements has been ...

Minimization of effect of CBN wheel wear on ground gear errors

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1999
Abstract Resistance to wear of CBN grinding wheels is much higher than that of conventional (Al2O3) wheels. However, CBN grinding wheels are seldom used in gear grinding, when production scale is small, due to the difficulty in truing. Moreover, wear of the grinding wheel greatly affects the accuracy of tooth trace, in most cases.

Stress analysis in worm gears with ground concave worm profile

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1996
Stress analysis by a finite element method is carried out in the worm and the gear of a cylindrical worm gear drive with a concave worm profile, ground by a grinding wheel of double arc profile. A computer program, based on finite elements, is developed for the calculation of stress distributions in the worm thread and the gear tooth.

Elastohydrodynamic response of transverse ground gear teeth

2002
Abstract The paper presents numerical results for the elastohydrodynamic lubrication of gear teeth taking their real surface roughness profiles into account. The conditions examined have surface roughness features that are large compared to the EHL film thickness.

A new worm gear drive with ground double arc profile

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1994
Abstract A new type of cylindrical worm gear drive is developed. The worm is ground by a grinding wheel of a double arc profile, and the obtained worm profile is concave. The teeth of the gear are processed by a hob whose generator surface corresponds to the worm surface.

Numerical modelling of bottom trawling ground gear element on the seabed

Ocean Engineering, 2014
Abstract This paper focuses on the numerical modelling of the interaction between gear components, rockhoppers, in particular and the seabed. This interaction is developed by using the Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian Method (CEL). To demonstrate the rate effect, a 2D finite element model is developed to analyse the pore pressure distribution and soil ...

Computer Aided Design of Hobs for Gear Manufacture of the Worm Gear Drive with Ground Worm

1980
The shape of the ground worm is determined by the geometry and the kinematics of the grinding. Due to the helical generating motion of the grinding wheel with straight-lined profiles, the ground worm possesses a curvilinear profile both in the axial and the normal section.
