A Nonergodic Ground Motion Model for Chile
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2022ABSTRACTIn this study, we develop a new nonergodic ground motion model (GMM) for Chile, which better captures the trade-off between the aleatory variability and epistemic uncertainty on ground motion estimates compared with existing GMMs. The GMM is developed for peak ground acceleration and pseudospectral acceleration at a period of 1 s. Most existing

Ground plane motion camera models
1996We show that it is possible to build an application-specific motion constraint into a general hierarchy of camera models so that the resulting algorithm is efficient and well conditioned; and the system degrades gracefully if the constraint is violated.

A Multiway Model for Predicting Earthquake Ground Motion
2013 14th ACIS International Conference on Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Parallel/Distributed Computing, 2013This paper develops a novel supervised method for predicting earthquake ground motions in the wavelet domain. The training input is a set of seismological predictors related to seismic source, path and local site conditions, and the training output consists of the weights from a multiway analysis of ground motions.

On the Interpretation of Conditional Ground-Motion Models
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2022ABSTRACT Recently, a number of conditional ground-motion models (CGMMs) have been developed for intensity measures (IMs) other than pseudospectral acceleration (PSA) values that are particularly useful for geotechnical earthquake engineering problems. In a CGMM, a non-PSA IM is conditioned on PSA IMs, and other earthquake parameters (e.g.

Tuning of stochastic ground motion models for compatibility with ground motion prediction equations
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2015SummaryStochastic ground motion models can facilitate a versatile description of earthquake acceleration time‐histories by modulating a white‐noise sequence through functions that address spectral and temporal properties of the excitation. This is established by relating the parameters of these functions to earthquake and site characteristics through ...

The current state-of-the-art ground motion models for application to the United States is summarized. The recent NGA ground motion models for shallow crustal earthquakes are in much more advanced than the currently available models for subduction earthquakes and for stable continental regions.

Development of ground motion models compatible with ground motion prediction equations
2014One of the most important aspects of seismic risk assessment is the characterization of the earthquake hazard through appropriate models that adequately address its variability for different seismicity levels. For applications involving dynamic analysis, especially in the context of performance based earthquake engineering, this requires description of

Graphical Models as Surrogates for Complex Ground Motion Models
2012In Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis, which has become the basis of decision making on the design of high risk facilities, one estimates the probability that ground motion caused by earthquakes exceeds a certain level at a certain site within a certain time interval.

Two approaches are used to develop the vertical design spectra in probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA): (i) performing PSHA for the vertical component using vertical ground motion models (GMMs), and (ii) utilizing the V/H ratio GMMs to scale the horizontal spectrum during or after the hazard calculations for the horizontal component.

Ground‐motion models for Vrancea intermediate‐depth earthquakes
Earthquake Spectra, 2022A newly compiled high‐quality ground‐shaking dataset of 207 intermediate‐depth earthquakes recorded in the Vrancea region of the south‐eastern Carpathian mountains in Romania was used to develop region‐specific empirical predictive equations for various intensity measures: peak ground acceleration, peak ground velocity, and 5%‐damped pseudo‐spectral ...
