Validation of strong-motion stochastic model using observed ground motion records in north-east India

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2016
We focused on validation of applicability of semi-empirical technique (spectral models and stochastic simulation) for the estimation of ground-motion characteristics in the northeastern region (NER) of India.

Machine learning prediction models for ground motion parameters and seismic damage assessment of buildings at a regional scale

open access: yesResilient Cities and Structures
This study examines the feasibility of using a machine learning approach for rapid damage assessment of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings after the earthquake.

Ground-Motion Variability for Ruptures on Rough Faults

open access: yes
Fault roughness influences earthquake rupture dynamics, seismic energy radiation, and, hence, resulting ground motion and its variability. Using 3D dynamic rupture simulations considering a range of rough-fault realizations, we investigate the effects of

Ground motion models for Molise region (Southern Italy)

open access: yes, 2006
On October 31st and November 1st, 2002 two moderate earthquakes of moment magnitude Mw=5.7 (INGV-Harvard European-Mediterranean Regional Centroid-Moment tensor project) occurred in southern Italy.

Slow ground motion modelling of diamond [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2003 Bipolar/BiCMOS Circuits and Technology Meeting (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37440), 2004
The need for high stability in third generation light sources has produced strict requirements on the design of the foundations. The specification for the concrete floor stability is a critical task, which can have a major cost impact. A careful assessment of the effects of slow ground motion on the accelerator is therefore required.

Strong ground motion characteristics of 2016 Central Italy earthquakes and implications for ground motion modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The 2016 Central Italy earthquake sequence produced three mainshocks: (1) M6.1 24 August, (2) M5.9 26 October, and (3) M6.5 30 October. Each mainshock was followed by many aftershocks, some of which with M > 5.0. All earthquake events occurred on southeast-northwest trending normal faults.

Stochastic modeling for starting-time of phase evolution of random seismic ground motions

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2014
In response to the challenge inherent in classical high-dimensional models of random ground motions, a family of simulation methods for non-stationary seismic ground motions was developed previously through employing a wave-group propagation formulation ...

Broadband Ground-Motion Simulations with Machine-Learning-Based High-Frequency Waves from Fourier Neural Operators

open access: yes
Seismic hazards analysis relies on accurate estimation of expected ground motions for potential future earthquakes. However, obtaining realistic and robust ground-motion estimates for specific combinations of earthquake magnitudes, source-to-site ...

Relationships between ground motion parameters and macroseismic intensity for Italy

open access: yes, 2020
The relation between macroseismic intensity and ground shaking makes it possible to transform instrumental Ground Motion Parameters (GMPs) in macroseismic intensity and vice versa, and is therefore useful for making comparisons between estimates of ...
