Optimized Cardiorespiratory State at Tone Onset Enhances Sensory Responses but Not Associative Learning in Healthy Adults

An individually optimized cardiorespiratory state at stimulus onset enhanced brain responses (N1–P2) to a neutral tone compared to those elicited in a separate group of individuals at diastole during expiration. However, optimizing sensory processing of the tone used as a conditioned stimulus did not improve trace eyeblink conditioning.
