Thermophysical Properties of the Desulphurization Slags With Various CaS and CaO/Al2O3 Ratio

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates how CaS content and the CaO/Al2O3 ratio influence the thermophysical properties of desulphurization slags. Using experimental measurements and thermodynamic simulations, this study reveals complex effects on viscosity, surface tension, and density, providing new insight into slag structure and phase behavior under ...

Buildings in Barcelona protected from railway-induced vibrations with base isolation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work describes two mid-height RC base isolated buildings recently erected in Barcelona. Both buildings are located near the main railway station in Barcelona (Barcelona-Sants), thus undergoing dynamic excitations due to intensive railway traffic ...

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Rotational bands in Quadrupole-Octupole Collective Model

open access: yes, 2017
A collective bands of positive and negative parity could be composed of the vibrations and rotations. The rotations of the octupole configurations can be based either on the axial or the non-axial octupole vibrations.

Vibrational modes and lattice distortion of a nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond from first-principles calculations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We investigate vibrational properties and lattice distortion of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond. Using the first-principles electronic structure calculations, we show that the presence of NV center leads to appearance of a ...

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.
