Impulse Behavior of Ground Electrodes

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1983
The state of knowledge on the behavior of ground wire electrodes under impulse currents due to lightning strokes is outlined. The influence of ground characteristics, size of buried conductors, and current wave-shape and intensity are discussed.

Lightning surge response of ground electrodes

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989
Experimental and analytical evidence shows that lighning surge currents ionize the air in the soil. This ionization process tends to increase the contact area of the electrode with surrounding material. The larger area results in lower resistance and less voltage stress per unit current.

Impulse characterization of ground electrodes

2014 International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2014
In this paper, an analysis of the experimental results on the impulse behaviour of grounding electrodes is presented. The parameters used for analyzing transient performance are reviewed and differences highlighted based on test data. The analysis is extended to (i) quantify the effect of impulse shape, (ii) quantify the effect of electrode length ...

Grounding/earthing electrode studies. 2

Proceedings of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Conference, 2002
The paper details the effort to determine the adequacy of various methods of grounding/earthing electrodes installed in the alkaline, highly mineralized soil of the Las Vegas, Nevada area The grounding electrode testing program outlined has been prepared to address a number of questions relating to grounding [earthing] electrodes and soil conditions in
