Research on the influence factors of lightning overvoltages of UHVDC grounding electrode lines

Workshop on Automated Control for Datacenters and Clouds, 2020
At present, the insulation design of the grounding electrode line is mainly based on 《the technical code for design of HVDC earth return operation system》 issued in 2014.

Lightning surge response of ground electrodes

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989
Experimental and analytical evidence shows that lighning surge currents ionize the air in the soil. This ionization process tends to increase the contact area of the electrode with surrounding material. The larger area results in lower resistance and less voltage stress per unit current.

Measures to Solve the Effect of HVDC Grounding Electrode Current on Metal Pipelines

2020 4th International Conference on HVDC (HVDC), 2020
The DC current injected into the earth from the grounding electrodes of HVDC system could flow into the oil and gas pipelines through their grounding, lead to high pipe-to-soil potential.

Corrosion assessment of a ground electrode in contact with ground enhancing compounds

2010 30th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2010
Although a ground enhancing compound of a grounding system main purpose is to discharge electrical current to ground, however, it overlooks the fact that it can suffer chemical degradation due to the contact of the ground electrode with the compound, as the latter is not a chemically inert material.

Coupling Effect Between HVDC Grounding Electrode and Natural Gas Pipelines Considering Complex Soil Structure Model

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery
The HVDC project is the backbone of new energy power transmission in the new power system and the key technology to realize the “double carbon” goal. When the HVDC system uses the earth as the loop path, DC current from the grounding electrode will be ...

Impulse characterization of ground electrodes

2014 International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2014
In this paper, an analysis of the experimental results on the impulse behaviour of grounding electrodes is presented. The parameters used for analyzing transient performance are reviewed and differences highlighted based on test data. The analysis is extended to (i) quantify the effect of impulse shape, (ii) quantify the effect of electrode length ...
