Impulse Behavior of Ground Electrodes
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1983The state of knowledge on the behavior of ground wire electrodes under impulse currents due to lightning strokes is outlined. The influence of ground characteristics, size of buried conductors, and current wave-shape and intensity are discussed.

Modelling of a Grounding Electrode
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1973An experimental modelling technique of a grounding electrode in non-homogenous soil is presented, and the experimental results obtained are compared with theoretical figures computed from known analytical methods.(1,2) This technique is suitable for dc or ac testing of a grounding electrode.

Lightning surge response of ground electrodes
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1989Experimental and analytical evidence shows that lighning surge currents ionize the air in the soil. This ionization process tends to increase the contact area of the electrode with surrounding material. The larger area results in lower resistance and less voltage stress per unit current.
