This article provides a first evaluation of land‐surface models at the km‐scale resolutions at which they are used in weather and Earth‐system models. At these resolutions, the lateral transfers of water that organize landscapes play an important role in predicting evaporation correctly. Riparian processes and human water management for irrigation need

The introduction of adaptive parameter tuning in the numerical weather prediction models of DWD in 2022 substantially improved the forecast quality of near‐surface variables like 2‐m temperature and 2‐m humidity. Since 2023, refinements and extensions, primarily affecting the surface evaporation and its diurnal cycle, have led to further advances ...

River‐Scale Evaluation of a Floating LED Light Array for Behavioral Guidance of American Eel
ABSTRACT Exploiting the sensory physiology of migratory fishes to guide them away from hazards like hydroelectric turbines is of interest to regulatory agencies and hydropower operators to achieve conservation and management goals. Here we describe a river‐scale experiment where out‐migrating adult American eel (Anguilla rostrata) were tracked ...

Groundwater flow and transport modeling
Journal of Hydrology, 1988Abstract Deterministic, distributed-parameter, numerical simulation models for analyzing groundwater flow and transport problems have come to be used almost routinely during the past decade. A review of the theoretical basis and practical use of groundwater flow and solute transport models is used to illustrate the state-of-the-art. Because of errors

A LATTICE BOLTZMANN MODEL FOR GROUNDWATER FLOWS
International Journal of Modern Physics C, 2007A novel lattice Boltzmann model is proposed for groundwater isotropic flows (LABGIF). It solves the isotropic groundwater equation. This is generally suitable for both steady and unsteady groundwater problems. Only a 5-speed square lattice is required for 2D and 7-speed cubic for 3D cases in the model.

Groundwater Recharge Modeling to Develop Predictive Groundwater Flow Models
Journal Of The Geological Society Of IndiaABSTRACT Excessive groundwater withdrawal has led to significant depletion of groundwater storage globally, especially in arid and semi-arid areas of countries like India, where groundwater is the primary source for irrigation, industrial, and domestic needs.

Groundwater Flow Modelling of a Landslide
2000The development of pore water pressures is an important issue in the behaviour of landslides under rainfall infiltration. Thus, the understanding of groundwater flow is an important achievement. The modelling of these rainfall events has been attempted so as to develop a system to predict large movements in landslides triggered by rainfall.

Modeling Groundwater Flow and Quality
2012In most areas, rocks in the subsurface are saturated with water at relatively shallow depths. The top of the saturated zone—the water table—typically occurs anywhere from just below land surface to hundreds of feet below the land surface. Groundwater generally fills all pore spaces below the water table and is part of a continuous dynamic flow system ...

A Correction on Coastal Heads for Groundwater Flow Models
Groundwater, 2014Abstract We introduce a simple correction to coastal heads for constant‐density groundwater flow models that contain a coastal boundary, based on previous analytical solutions for interface flow. The results demonstrate that accurate discharge to the sea in confined aquifers can be obtained by direct application ...

Modelling Groundwater Flow Systems
1996The regional flow systems analysis should start with a general analysis of the problem in terms of boundary conditions, homogeneity of the flow domain scales: lateral scales and associated depth scales, time-scales.
