Gravitational Systems of Groundwater Flow
2009This book recognises groundwater flow as a fundamental geologic agent, and presents a wide-ranging and illustrated overview of its history, principles, scientific consequences and practical utilization. The author, one of the founding fathers of modern hydrogeology, highlights key interrelationships between seemingly disparate processes and systems by ...

Groundwater Flow Systems and Hydrocarbon Migration
1996Toth has gradually extended his concept of a hierarchy of flow systems, originally developed for small drainaige basins, to large sedimentary basins with large width-, depth- and time scales, for instance the study of gravity-induced cross-formational flow of formation fluids in the Red Earth Region of Alberta, Canada (Toth, 1978) and the study of oil ...

Groundwater flow to a system of drainage canals
Water Resources, 2006A classical model of groundwater flow to a system of drainage canals is considered within a framework of a two-dimensional steady-state problem. The solution to this problem is derived based on the Riemann-Schwarts principle of symmetry. This solution yields simple analytical relationships expressed in terms of special or elementary functions ...

Steady groundwater flow as a dynamical system
Water Resources Research, 1994Dynamical systems describe the time evolution of moving spatial points under the influence of a smooth, bounded vector field. The theory of these systems is focused on the global properties of their flow paths, not on their integration, and so gives general, qualitative information that does not depend on the details of the spatial variability of the ...

Three‐dimensional modeling of groundwater flow systems
Water Resources Research, 1978Practical aspects of three‐dimensional (3‐D) modeling of groundwater flow systems are closely examined. A Galerkin finite element model is designed with a view to providing flexibility, user convenience, and a high degree of efficiency, qualities which are critical to the success of 3‐D modeling of real systems.

Permafrost thaw in a nested groundwater-flow system
Hydrogeology Journal, 2013Groundwater flow in cold regions containing permafrost accelerates climate-warming-driven thaw and changes thaw patterns. Simulation analyses of groundwater flow and heat transport with freeze/thaw in typical cold-regions terrain with nested flow indicate that early thaw rate is particularly enhanced by flow, the time when adverse environmental impacts

Groundwater flow systems in torbiditic units
2004The paper deals with the analysis of hydrological and hydrochemical data coming out from 2 distinct monitoring projects of springs and creeks in 5 mountainous watersheds in Northern Apennines (Italy), located inside the outcropping area of “Marnoso Arenacea” arenaceous torbiditic unit.

The Cuitzeo groundwater flow system in central Mexico is facing challenges due to intensive groundwater extraction, nitrate pollution, and a decline in groundwater levels. To understand the processes underlying these environmental impacts, we used compiled data from 2013 and employed cluster analysis to identify distinct groups.
