Application of advanced machine learning algorithms and geospatial techniques for groundwater potential zone mapping in Gambela Plain, Ethiopia

open access: yesHydrology Research, 2023
Groundwater availability is one of the key anxieties in most semi-arid regions of Ethiopia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the groundwater potential zone map of the alluvial plain of Gambela.

Potential groundwater contribution to Amazon evapotranspiration [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2010
Abstract. Climate and land ecosystem models simulate a dry-season vegetation stress in the Amazon forest, but observations do not support these results, indicating adequate water supply. Proposed mechanisms include larger soil water store and deeper roots in nature and the ability of roots to move water up and down (hydraulic redistribution), both ...

General Synthesis of Amorphous Pd‐Based Nanoparticles Towards Highly Efficient Nitrate‐to‐Ammonia Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A family of amorphous palladium‐based multi‐component phosphides nanoparticles, synthesized via a robust one‐step wet‐chemical method, overcoming the immiscibility of different elements and the difficulty in forming a stable, disordered structure. When applied in the electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction, these nanocatalysts effectively suppress ...

Evaluation of aquifer hydraulic properties from resistivity and pumping test data in parts of Gwagwalada, Northcentral Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Groundwater Science and Engineering
Population upsurge in Gwagwalada increased water demand in the area, thereby stressing water resources in the area. Aquifer properties in parts of Gwagwalada in North-Central Nigeria were therefore investigated using resistivity and hydrogeological ...

Integrating In-Situ Data and RS-GIS Techniques to Identify Groundwater Potential Sites in Mountainous Regions of Taiwan

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Due to rapid urbanization, the development of megacities and metropolises worldwide is creating water scarcity, social-environmental risk, and challenges to the regions where water supply from rivers and alluvial aquifers is insufficient and unstable ...

Cemeteries - A Potential Risk to Groundwater

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1991
Cemeteries are a source of environmental impacts among which is featured the risk to groundwater contamination by microorganisms that proliferate during the process of decomposition of bodies. The main objective of this work was to monitor the bacteriological quality of the water from the water table in three cemeteries chosen in accordance with ...

High‐Efficiency PFOA Removal by Microstructure‐Engineered Ultrathin Amphiphilic Mesoporous Reduced Graphene Oxide@Silica

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study developed an amphiphilic ultrathin mesoporous adsorbent through microstructure design, which exhibits remarkable mass transport efficiency and high affinity toward PFAS, thereby achieving an ultrahigh uptake capacity and rapid kinetics for PFAS adsorption.

Mapping groundwater dependent ecosystem potential in a semi-arid environment using a remote sensing-based multiple-lines-of-evidence approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth, 2023
Groundwater dependent ecosystems (GDEs) are vulnerable to groundwater regime changes. However, their protection is often hampered by challenges in their identification.

Cyclodextrin‐Functionalized Light‐Driven Cu2O Micromotors for Simultaneous Capture and Degradation of Bisphenol A

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Fuel‐free Cu2O‐based micromotors functionalized with β‐cyclodextrin actively remove bisphenol A from water under visible light. The cyclodextrin shell captures BPA and enhances micromotor motility, leading to faster degradation and higher overall removal than nonfunctionalized Cu2O and Cu2O@Au.

Towards best practice for assessing the impacts of climate change on groundwater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
An essay is presented on the recommendations that need to be considered by hydrogeologists in assessing the impacts of climate change on groundwater.
