Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Youth and the Structural Denial of the Right to Human Dignity: An Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Epistemological Approach

open access: yesReligions
There are discriminatory, structured, opaque human rights violations that keep the socioeconomically vulnerable subservient, a social problem that goes against the core Christian principle: humans are created in the image of God and all share equal ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Study of the Levels of Trace and Ultra-Trace Element Profile in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction in Babylon Province

open access: yesMedical Journal of Babylon
Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is considered one of the most threatening cardiovascular diseases, also called a heart attack, which occurs when there is a blockage in the blood flow to the heart muscle.

Frames of Group Sets and Their Application in Bundle Theory

open access: yesMathematics
We study fiber bundles where the fibers are not a group G but a free G-space with disjoint orbits. The fibers are then not torsors but disjoint unions of these; hence, we like to call them semi-torsors.

Insulin-Like Growth Factor-I Axis Changes in Fasting Among Healthy and Prediabetic Men: A Case-Control Study

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2023
Objective: Energy deprivation induces changes in various components of the “growth hormone”/“insul in-like growth factor-I” axis; however, it remains unclear whether Ramadan fasting could alter which ones in response to food deprivation.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

MUSIK ROCK ALTERNATIF DALAM KALANGAN REMAJA: ISU SUB-BUDAYA REMAJA DAN PEMBANGUNAN INSAN DALAM ERA GLOBALISASI

open access: yesJurnal Antropologi: Isu-Isu Sosial Budaya, 2017
The debate on the involvement of youth in music is not a new topic in the discourses on youth and life styles. The article discusses a research work on a group of Malay urban youth in Malaysia who were involved in underground rock music and the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
